Mildly Spicy Vegan Tteokbokki (and GF option)

Updated: Mar 29

Ingredients for 3 snack servings

★1tbsp Gochujang

=(Gluten Free option is 1tbsp tomato paste + 1tsp broth powder+chili flake)

★2tsp sugar

★1 clove of garlic (finely chopped)

★1/4 tsp smoked paprika powder

★1/4 tsp vegan broth (powder)

★400g water

100g sliced potato

100g sliced fried tofu (=Rinsed to remove excess oil)

50g leek

250g Tteokbokki (See image below)

1tbsp GF miso (I used this rice& soy based miso ↓)

(to add later)

pepper to taste

A pinch of black salt

Some chopped greens

I buy my Tteokbokki at Go Asia supermarket.

They are usually placed next to their fresh tofu in the fridge.

Choose the one from Korea. (There are many different types of rice cakes)

I replaced half of Gochujang with miso paste to make it less hot.

But if you like the authentic level of spicy Tteokbokki ,add 2tbsp of Gochujang

for 400g water and 1tsp of soy sauce.

Step1

Add all ★ ingredients in a pot.

Stir it well.

Step2

Bring it to a boil.

Add all the vegetables and Tteokbokki.

Let it simmer over a low to medium high heat for at least 15 minutes.

Step3

Add 1tbsp miso and let it cook over a medium high heat for about 5 minutes

to thicken the sauce.

Step4

Sprinkle some pepper and greens :)

If you miss the original eggy flavor sprinkle some black salt.

(Usually there are boiled eggs in this street food)

At the event of the 29th March 2025.

We made one authentic Tteokbokki (left) and one GF version(right).

And They looked identical:)

Enjoy your Tteokbokki.
