Mashed Potatoes

I have made a lot of good mashed potatoes for festive events.

But so far this is my best and the exact recipe to share with you.

I don't like very loose mashed potatoes but if you like softer mashed potatoes

add some more plant based milk.( I used this product.)




Ingredients for 3 small side dish portion


700ml water

7g salt


150ml (or more ) Edeka's almond oat milk

10g vegan butter or oil

Pepper to taste



Step1 How to remove stach from potatoes

Soak sliced potatoes in cold water for a couple of minutes.


Step2

Rinse the potatoes.


Step3

In a small pot add 700ml new water ,7g salt and potato slices.

Let it simmer for 20-25 minutes until they are fork tender.



Step4

Strain potatoes.



If you don't have such a strainer place boiled potatoes on a cooking sheet.

Hold the cooking sheet into half to cover potatoes.

Roll it out just like a pie sheet.





Step5

Add the rolled potato into the warmed plant based milk.



Step6

Roughly mix it with a spatula over a medium heat.


Step7

Add 10g of vegan butter or oil.

Mix it until smooth.

But don't kneed it.

👉If you want to make it softer add more plant based milk at this moment .



Step8

(To take it to the next level)

Strain it one more time with using a strainer and a spatula.

The potatoes you had at my event has been strained twice.




Step10

Serve it with ground pepper ,or nutmeg .




Quick vegan gravy




Add all the ★ ingredients in a saucepan .

Whisk it until well combined.

Add the rest of the plant based milk and bring it to a boil.

The sauce will be thicken in a few minutes

Sprinkle pepper to taste.



★1 tsp Ostmann's spice mix (or spices of your choice with some salt)

★1 tsp brewer's yeast

★1 tsp sugar

★1 EV olive oil

★1tbsp wheat flour

★1tsp mushroom sauce (or soy sauce for the color)

★50 ml almond oat milk

200ml or more almond oat milk (to add later)

Pepper to taste




Lastly I would like to share the common mistakes everyone makes when making mashed potatoes.


Not soaking sliced potatoes ( to remove starch)

Not adding salt when you boil potatoes.(It tastes different and cooks slow)

Using a hand blender to mix.(It will be too waxy)

Kneading the mushed potatoes too much. (It will be too waxy)

Adding cold milk or liquid at the step5. (harder to stir)

Adding too little milk/ liquid . (it will be much firmer later)
